We encourage anyone who has accepted Christ and become a Christian to be baptized.  The following are some frequently asked questions about baptism.  Please feel free to contact Pastor Mark Winner in the church office if you’d like more information or have any questions.

WHY SHOULD I BE BAPTIZED?

To follow the example set by Jesus

“At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was
baptized by John in the Jordan.” (Mark 1:9)

Because Christ commands it

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF BAPTISM?

It illustrates Christ’s burial and resurrection

We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. (Romans 6:4)

It illustrates my new life as a Christian

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;
the old has gone, the new has come! (2 Corinthians 5:17)

WHO SHOULD BE BAPTIZED?

Every person who has believed in Christ

Those who accepted his message were baptized,… (Acts 2:41)

SHOULD CHILDREN BE BAPTIZED?

At Cornerstone, we wait until children are mature enough to make a decision for Christ on their own. If your child would like to be baptized, please set up a time with Pastor Mark or Pastor Liz to discuss the child’s faith with them. Parents are encouraged to participate in this discussion.

WHAT’S THE SERVICE LIKE?

Our baptism service is held once each year in July or August. We gather together as a church family at Madison Township Park, right on the beach of Lake Erie. It’s a wonderful time of worship, fellowship and baptism, and we also have our church picnic that same day!

Details are usually given during Sunday worship services beginning about a month before the baptism service is scheduled.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Please wear dark clothing. (Light colors tend to be revealing)

Pants or shorts and a shirt is fine.

You may want to wear shoes that you are comfortable getting wet as there are stones in the water.
